Logging in to Yoda

You can view the Yoda portal via any browser. When you have received access to Yoda, you should have received an e-mail invitation which will guide you to the Yoda portal of your institute.

Log in using the “Sign in” button. You will be prompted for your user name and password. Your user name is either your institution id or the e-mail address you have used to create the Yoda account. External users have usually received their user name via email, along with a link to set their password.

Overview of the Yoda Portal

Group Manager

Yoda allows you to store your valuable research data in a secure way. The data is kept in data spaces, which can only be accessed by members.

The Group Manager tab can be used to view a list of data groups and their members. People with a “group manager” role can add members to a data space, remove them, and change their roles. See How to manage a research group.

Research module and the Vault

Use the Research menu item to manage your data. Each data space has two main folders:

The main folder prefixed with 'research-' contains current research data that researchers collaborate on. Data is kept in sub-folders. The sub-folders can be organized according to the needs of the researcher.

After completion of a study, the data in that sub-folder can be deposited into a Vault to create an immutable data package of a sub-folder. Use the “Submit” button to deposit the sub-folder. This will copy the contents of the sub-folder to the Vault folder as a new data package (see below). Before doing so, the sub-folder must be described with metadata, which can be entered by clicking on the Metadata button. The folder prefixed with 'vault-' contains deposited data packages. Once deposited, data cannot be removed. Therefore the vault can be used to account for data in a research project to comply with FAIR principles. See How to archive data packages for more information.

If your institute has opted for the publication module, researchers can opt to (but do not have to) publish any of the vault deposited data packages to make the metadata description of a data package known to the research community at large. Yoda adds a DOI persistent identifier to published data so that the data package can be cited and found in catalogs such as Datacite, Narcis, B2Find etcetera. If (and only if) the data has been classified as “open” then the content itself can be downloaded from the internet. Otherwise, only the metadata description can be viewed. See How to publish data packages for more information.
